The Algarveans striving for perfection for Humorfest

Among the cast of nine lending their talents to the show are some newcomers to the Lagoa stage

With only three weeks left to opening night, The Algarveans are deep in rehearsals for I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, their contribution to Lagoa’s Humorfest comedy event.

Presented in the form of a series of vignettes connected by the central theme of love and relationships, the show is everything you ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage and lovers but were afraid to admit.

Among the cast of nine lending their talents to the show are some newcomers to the Lagoa stage. Lara Salter remarks: “It’s been a joy working on this fast-paced, comic exploration of romantic relationships. The music is as varied as the characters, and it’s been a pleasure to work with The Algarveans who are such a talented and welcoming group.”

First-time performer with The Algarveans, Tom Murphy says: “I’ve never sung in front of a large audience before, so this is a challenge, but one I’m loving! Some scenes will have people laughing out loud, but there are others where there won’t be a dry eye.”

Veteran Algarvean performers Tracey Christiansen, Frank Remiatte, Alan Smith and Angela Theobold all agree that performing with a live band delivers extra zing and praise director Paul Legault for the energy and experience he brings to rehearsals.

I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change is the second-longest running musical in Off-Broadway history, running for 5,003 performances. The Algarveans, however, are performing for just three nights, so get your tickets now.

‘I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change’ is playing at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, Lagoa on March 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30 pm. Tickets at €12 are now available from Bol.pt or in person at the Auditorium and at Município de Lagoa – Balcão Único. Tickets are also available at Worten and FNAC shops or online websites.
