The first bake-a-cake coffee morning in support of Soup Kitchens in the Algarve is taking place on Tuesday, November 20 at the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra from 10.30am to 12 noon.
Spearheaded by Algarve resident Verna Kinder, the coffee mornings aim to gather a group of people who share common interests: they must enjoy baking and help those less fortunate in society.
Verna Kinder told the Algarve Resident: “People, in ever-increasing numbers, are finding themselves in dire financial straits and are turning up at Soup Kitchens. The thought of having an occasional meal or food to take home, provided free of charge, shows them we care.
“So as the colder, wet weather makes their lives even more difficult, let us support the volunteers in the Soup Kitchens to have enough food to distribute.”
Those interested in supporting the cause should find their favourite recipe, bake a cake or cakes and take them along to the coffee morning event. The cakes will be distributed among the local Soup Kitchens for the next meal they provide, or kept in the freezer to ensure a plentiful supply is on hand when needed.
