Veteran Palmeiras Resort-Tavira star Cândido Barbosa won the fifth and last round of cycling’s national cup competition in Vila Nova de Cacela to secure the overall Portuguese individual crown.
The Algarve team celebrated further success when Luis Silva recorded his first professional victory over the 138km between Castro Marim and Tavira constituting the 5th Sotavento Algarve Classic.
Prior to these two events, the Tavira Urban Circuit Challenge, open only to the top five professional teams in the country, went to Madeinox’s Sergio Sousa who beat Loule’s Pedro Soeiro in the closing sprint to the line.
This week Barbosa returned to action alongside team mates Daniel Mestre, Samuel Caldeira, Tomas Metcalf, Andre Cardoso and Luis Silva at the French Tour de Gironde.
