Play in the Parque 2025: Dolce Vita reinvented!

Guaranteed fun for all the family

This year’s Play in the Parque “Dolce Vita” will take place on Friday, July 4, in the forest behind Barão de São João (Lagos).

Since 2006, the annual Play in the Parque has become an unmissable event in the Algarve calendar. Produced by Aljezur International School, the cast of this outdoor theatre production includes over 50 students, parents and teachers as well as members of the local community. The year 6 children of Barlavento International Primary School, owned and operated by the same directors, will also be taking part.

This year’s show, as always written by school director Karen Whitten, takes the audience to The Dolce Vita School of Life where the annual talent competition is underway. Unfortunately, the founder of the school, Lady Penelope Farting, has some bad news for the students – Dolce Vita is being closed down by the school inspectors!

They decide to carry on with the competition regardless and a whole host of acts take to the stage, including Elvis, Tina Turner, Madonna and Village People. But all is not as it may seem. And everyone seems fixated on the treasure which is allegedly hidden somewhere in the decrepit school building.

Lady Penelope, played by Drama teacher Lindsay Gear, discovers that she has a long lost niece (strange as she is an only child) in the form of the evil Ms Demeanour, played by A level Drama student, Indigo Mayes Randisek, who arranges for the students and teachers to be taken on a (one way!) trip of a lifetime to Timbuktu so she can sell up and move to the Caribbean.

With singing, dancing and hilarity throughout, this year’s show is shaping up to be the best yet and guaranteed fun for all the family.

The outdoor performance takes place at Parque de Merendas which is in the forest behind the village of Barão de São João. The audience is invited to arrive from 4.30pm onwards for drinks and bbq snacks, and are advised to bring a blanket or deckchair to sit on.  The show itself starts at 6.30pm.
