Police arrest 11 people across Algarve in 48 hours

Arrests made in Portimão, Tavira, Faro and Lagos

PSP police in the Algarve arrested 11 people in a series of operations carried out over 48 hours in several towns across the region.

In a statement sent out to newsrooms on Thursday afternoon (March 12), the PSP Faro District Command said the arrests took place in Portimão, Tavira, Faro and Lagos.

Four of the suspects were detained in connection with drug trafficking offences. Three men were arrested in Portimão and another man in Tavira in separate police interventions aimed at tackling the sale of illegal drugs.

During the operations, officers seized four individual doses of cocaine, 22 doses of heroin and 200 doses of hashish, along with several items believed to be linked to drug trafficking activity.

In Faro, a 31-year-old man was arrested after allegedly insulting police officers and actively resisting their intervention during an incident related to a dispute over a road accident.

Another arrest took place in Portimão following a domestic dispute which involved knife-wielding threats between residents of the same home. A 37-year-old woman was detained after she allegedly threatened another resident and resisted officers after they arrived.

Several arrests were also made as part of road traffic enforcement carried out across the district.

Police said four drivers were detained for driving without a valid licence, while another driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. These incidents were recorded in Portimão, Lagos and Faro.

The Faro District Command said it remains “committed to maintaining public safety” through ongoing policing operations, focusing on crime prevention as well as road safety across the region.
