Popular ‘Feira da Serra’ returns to São Brás de Alportel

Event showcases culture and traditions of life in the Algarve hills

São Brás de Alportel is again preparing to host one of the Algarve’s biggest summer events – the Feira da Serra (Mountain Fair). Showcasing life in the hills where time appears to stand still, the popular event is taking place this week, between Thursday (July 24) and Sunday (July 27) at the local EB2/3 Poeta Bernardo de Passos school.

This year, the fair will cover over four hectares, feature more than 300 exhibitors, 22 “themed spaces”, nine restaurants, several food stalls, and over 70 hours of entertainment. Six stages will be set up to welcome the various artists taking part.

Headline acts include Angolan singer Matias Damásio (Thursday) and Portuguese singers Emanuel (Friday), Pedro Abrunhosa (Saturday) and Carolina Deslandes (Sunday). The warm-up acts each night will be performed by local artists.

Mayor Vítor Guerreiro says the event, which has been running for over 30 years, aims to showcase the culture, traditions and arts and crafts of São Brás de Alportel, as well as its people and businesses. “There is every reason for people to visit us. The event has something for all ages, and the locally made products are truly unique and of high quality.”

Honey and its production take centre stage at this year’s Feira da Serra, highlighting the importance of the product in the region’s culture and gastronomy, and serving as inspiration for the 22 themed spaces spread across the fairground.

The fair opens daily at 7pm and tickets can be purchased online at MEO Blueticket, at the venue on the days of the event starting at 6.30pm, or on week days at the local council’s treasury.

One-day ticket prices start at €7, with three-day and four-day passes costing €13 and €17, respectively.
