Schools, training institutions and companies will come together at the Portimão Arena between February 4-6 for the eighth edition of Start Work, a fair focused on education, vocational training, entrepreneurship and employment.
Launched by the municipal council of Portimão in 2016, the event is aimed at young people aged 13 and over and adults, and is designed to showcase job and internship opportunities, professional training programmes, investment support measures, secondary education options and higher education pathways.

Throughout the three-day event, visitors can expect activities promoting the courses offered by participating schools and institutions, as well as workshops, themed demonstrations, and short information sessions led by companies. Talks will cover practical topics such as job-hunting techniques, internships, career prospects, emotional intelligence, artificial intelligence, the role parents play in career decision-making, and access to higher education.
The Portimão fair runs from 2.30pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday, February 4, from 10am to 6.30pm on Thursday, February 5, and from 10am to 5pm on Friday, February 6. The programme also includes live entertainment, with musical performances, rhythmic gymnastics, dance, face painting and balloon modelling. Entry is free.
Start Work is jointly organised by the municipal council of Portimão, Portugal’s employment institute (IEFP), and the Algarve delegation of the board of school establishments.
The full programme will be announced soon online.
