Portimão launches Sunday art market in city centre

New event will give local artists more visibility

Portimão has announced the launch of a new cultural event aimed at bringing art into the heart of the city.

Starting on April 12, the initiative, called “Alameda das Artes”, will take place every two weeks on Sunday morning between 9am and 1pm at Praça da República, also known locally as the Alameda.

The open-air event will feature a mix of artistic works, including painting, photography, sculpture and live music, creating a space where residents and visitors can experience art outdoors.

Organisers say the aim is to make art more visible in public spaces while encouraging closer contact between artists and the community. Each edition will also feature a musical guest.

The project, which is expected to provide a boost to local artists and contribute to the cultural revitalisation of central Portimão, is set to draw more people into the area on weekend mornings.

Following the launch on April 12, the next event is scheduled for April 26.

Artists interested in taking part must register in advance. Registrations can be made on weekdays between 9am and 1pm or 2pm and 4.30pm at the municipal market on Avenida São João de Deus.
