PSP are celebrating another major coup against drug trafficking operations in the Greater Lisbon area. This time, almost six tonnes of hashish was seized, along with guns, drones, thousands of euros in cash, top-of-the-range vehicles and various ‘high speed’ power boats.
The police operation took place over the weekend and is expected to conclude by the end of the day.
Seven people so far have been arrested.
The Portuguese-Spanish network allegedly behind this trafficking operation is described as “highly dangerous”. According to reports, members were heavily armed, which is why a special police unit took part in the operation which began late on Friday night.
The police investigation began ‘around six months ago’, writes Correio da Manhã. It was launched by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police, through the Criminal Investigation Division, with the support of several PSP units.
Officers’ raid initially honed in on a warehouse in the Corroios area of Seixal, and a private home in Almada from which a number of ‘top-of-the-range’ vehicles were taken.
The seven arrested will be having their first judicial interrogation today for the application of enforcement measures.
It is understood that as soon as police investigations are completed and judicial authorities have applied enforcement measures, the PSP will present the results of this operation to the media at a press conference.
