PSP police ‘torture’: stations searched, arrests warrants issued for two agents

Public prosecutor’s office carrying out searches in Lisbon this morning

The Public Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out searches in Lisbon PSP (Public Security Police) stations on suspicion of the committing of various crimes, including torture, offences against qualified physical integrity, embezzlement and forgery.

The investigation specifically targets two PSP agents, for whom arrest warrants have already been issued, confirmed the Lisbon District Prosecutor’s Office.

In addition to the raids on several stations, house searches are being carried out with the collaboration of police in the operation – with the PSP itself reporting facts directly to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“So far, around a dozen offences have been reported. The proceedings are being presided over by magistrates from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and have the collaboration of the PSP,” said a statement about the investigation being carried out by Lisbon’s Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).

Police too have confirmed the searches of stations within the 1st Police Division in Lisbon, but stress that so far there have been no arrests.
