Participants at the Rotary Club of Silves’ Annual Rubber Duck Race had a quacking time enjoying a traditional English afternoon tea whilst watching heats and finals of the duck race. The event was held at the Club president’s house in Silves on September 20.
The winning duck owner was Elke Beckmann whose duck crossed the finish line well ahead of the second-place duck owned by Rotary Club member David Trubshaw.
A total of €1,000 was raised towards the costs of accommodation and flights for the students of Agrupamento de Escolas Silves Sul who will be attending the Model United Nations meeting at Cheadle Hulme School in Cheshire, UK. The two teams of six students from the Algoz and Armação de Pêra campuses will be representing Portugal and Angola at the Model United Nations gathering.
RC Silves would like to thank all those who took part and donated to this educational project.
“Opportunities like this make a big difference to students, their futures and Portugal’s,” said RC Silves.
