Algarve motorbike rider Ruben Faria headed up a first ever Portuguese Dakar Rally one-two as he took top honours alongside Helder Rodrigues at the end of the sixth stage.
The pair were holding fourth and fifth place behind overall leader Marc Coma at the half-way mark of the Chile-Argentina off-road marathon.
Closer to home, Elisabete Jacinto finished second in the lorry category and seventh overall as the Africa Eco Race, which had embarked from Tavira, drew to a close at Lac Rose in Senegal.
Lastly, a three-man team from Albufeira is competing in the latest edition of the trans-European/African Budapest-Bamako Rally which will begin its 18,000km journey between Hungary and Mali tomorrow (Saturday).
