Searches underway for woman swept away by river current in Silves

Severe weather continues to affect most of Portugal

Authorities are searching for a woman believed to have been swept away by strong currents after falling into the Arade River in Silves this Tuesday morning.

The search is being coordinated by the Portugal’s maritime authority (AMN), with boats, ground teams from the GNR and firefighters, and drone support.

Authorities were alerted shortly after 7am, according to reports in the national press.

The incident occurred against a backdrop of severe weather, with heavy rain leading to rising river levels across several regions.
