‘Giving the children of the Refúgio Aboim Ascensão their right to be cared for and loved’
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Tournament, an annual event celebrating the life of Sir Bobby and raising much-needed funds for the Refúgio Aboim Ascensão, in Faro.
The staff at the Refúgio care for up to 95 children from all parts of Portugal who have been neglected, abandoned and, in some cases, abused.
Carla Pargana, executive director of the Refúgio, said: “The Refúgio Aboim Ascensão was the first emergency temporary shelter established in Portugal and, with you all by our side, we do our best to give a better future to the children we look after. We really appreciate the support we receive from the Robson family, and everyone involved in the tournament.”
This year’s tournament takes place on Saturday, June 7 at the Pestana Vila Sol resort, in Vilamoura. It’s free to come along and watch the golf though donations to the Refúgio are always welcome (see below).
Sir Bobby’s wife, Lady Elsie, said: “This is a special year for the tournament, the 20th since it was established and the 13th since Bob’s passing in July 2009 (2020 and 2021 didn’t take place due to Covid restrictions). During all this time, we’ve never lost sight of the main reason for the tournament – to support the children of the Refúgio by granting them their right to be cared for and loved.”
The Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Tournament is a great event for a fantastic cause. If you play golf and enjoy football or just want to do something wonderful for children who’ve had a difficult start to their lives, then please consider donating to the Refúgio and joining us on June 7.
