SIR CLIFF Richard will be autographing bottles of his award winning Vida Nova wines on July 24 at Apolónia supermarket in Galé and again the following day at Baptista supermarket in Praia da Luz.
These events, which will both start at 10.30am, have been organised to celebrate the launch of the singer’s latest wine label, Onda Nova, New Wave, which will be on the shelves later this year.
Recent developments at Sir Cliff’s winery in Guia have resulted in a new eco-friendly distribution policy.
Best Rosé
“The increasing environmental and financial costs of transporting goods long distances means that it is better to sell more wine in the Algarve, closer to where the grapes are grown and processed,” he said.
Several restaurants and stores, including Apolónia and Baptista, now stock a selection of Sir Cliff’s wines.
For three years in succession, his Vida Nova Rosé wine was selected as Portugal’s best, beating other long-established national brands.
Vida Nova’s 2005, 2006 and 2007 vintages were chosen by wine critic, José António Salvador and listed in O Que Beber?, a supplement, published annually by Visão magazine. Providing an ABC dos Vinhos, it is considered to be the Portuguese wine drinker’s bible.
Gallery launch
On August 23, Sir Cliff is closely involved in another launch, sponsoring the wine at the opening of a new exhibition at Galeria Corte-Real in Boliqueime.
Guests will have the opportunity to sample his Rosé while enjoying an evening of art and music.
Tours arranged around Sir Cliff’s vineyard include a visit to the cellar where vintage wines are stored in traditional oak casks and to his winery. There is a boutique shop on site selling wine and other quality items to the general public.
