In the wake of the fairly ‘extraordinary’ government take on the effects of yesterday’s general strike, PS Socialists are requesting a parliamentary hearing with Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro on the future ‘institutional organisation model’ of state news agency Lusa.
According to the party that used to be interchangeable with the centre-right when it came to holding power in this country, there is a danger of government control of Lusa.
And if that happens, the country could be fed ‘more of the same’ as was dished up yesterday (patently one-sided).
Speaking to journalists in parliament, Eurico Brilhante Dias, the PS parliamentary leader, described the request for a hearing as an “immediate initiative”.
To be fair, journalists who rely on Lusa for a great deal of information already find some of the content slanted towards the ‘government perspective’. Any further pressure in that regard would ultimately compromise the agency, which Brilhante Dias suggests is the PS party’s “greatest concern”.
