The Superbike FIM World Championship is returning to the Algarve this weekend (July 4-6) for the seventh consecutive year, bringing some of the world’s best riders with it to race for glory at the Portimão racetrack.
With four different Superbike classes hitting the tarmac – Superbike, Supersport, Stocksport 1000 and Stocksport 600 – spectators will have no shortage of entertainment, especially as most riders are still quite close together in general standings.
In the main Superbike category, English racer Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) leads the championship standings with 251 points, ahead of Saylvain Guintoli (Aprilia) and Loris Baz (Kawasaki).
Although Irish competitor Eugene Laverty (Suzuki) is placed 9th, he may be a contender as he used to race for the former Parkalgar team and knows the track well.
Besides the races, the racetrack is planning a number of other events, including motorbike ‘test rides’ with Aprilia and Kawasaki bikes, hot laps (non-competitive rides around the race track), and much more.
Events are scheduled to begin at 8am.
Prices range from €10 to €35 for daily tickets, and €25 to €39 for three-day tickets. Students are offered 40% off the price of tickets.
For further information on schedules, contact the racetrack’s ticket booth.
