‘Legacy Pet Plan’, a long-awaited dream come true, is straightforward and tailored to fit you. Animal Rescue Algarve’s ‘Cabanita’, near Loulé, is a purpose-built shelter for the canine and feline world. Another dream come true. ARA’s main purpose: rescuing abandoned animals and re-homing them.
So, APAA (Association for Protection of Animals Algarve) and ARA joined forces for the rehabilitation of pets who are left accidentally by their owners, either because of illness or death. Their answer is ‘Legacy Pet Plan’, a plan for pet owners to take responsibility for their furry loved ones whilst they still can.
‘Legacy Pet Plan’ was drawn up with flexibility in mind. “The pet(s) in your care may not always be that fortunate,” says Anita Wight, appointed ‘Legacy’ Ambassador for the ARA-APAA project. “We can offer a solution which is flexible to suit you and your furry loved ones. A plan which gives your pet(s) sanctuary when needed until they are ready to be re-homed. Vet care, re-chipping, and rehabilitation in some cases take time, love and care.”
For this reason, ARA commissioned the talents of Carlos Filipe, animal rights campaigner, author and photographer, to give the animal world a way of telling you, their loving owners, what life would be like for them in ARA’s ‘tomorrow world’. The one you cannot give them. Carlos explains: “The video clip is short and more precise visually on what ARA can offer – from your pet(s) point of view. Outstanding quality of rehabilitation and care.”
Anita is constantly on the road, meeting with pet owners who are interested in ‘Legacy’ but are not quite sure. “We can discuss the ‘ins and outs’ of each individual’s personal situation.”
Anita and Jenny Clarke, president of APAA, are both signed up, along with 24 or more others. “People need to take time. After all, this is where we have to look out of the box into the real world. Make decisions for our pets that will be carried out after we have gone, or in case of illness.” Definitely a move in the right direction for your pets.
