Two wonderful girls waiting for a home

Introducing Lassie and Linda

Every dog who comes into our care has a story, and this month Cadela Carlota, in Lagos, would like to introduce two very special girls: Lassie and Linda. Different in age and personality, both remind us why patience, kindness and dedicated volunteers make such an extraordinary difference.

Linda is currently looking for her forever home. At 11 years old, she joined us at the end of last year after her elderly owner became too unwell to care for her. Since then, she has been living in foster care with one of our volunteers, where she has revealed herself to be a truly wonderful companion.

Linda is calm, gentle and incredibly easy to live with. She enjoys a comfortable corner to rest, regular meals, and a few relaxed walks each day. She can stay home alone without problems, travels well in the car, and behaves beautifully outdoors. Small to medium-sized and affectionate without being demanding, she would be perfect for someone seeking a serene and loving companion.

We hope to find Linda a calm and caring home where she can once again feel that deep sense of belonging every dog deserves.

Very different, but equally special, is our shy young Lassie, who recently enjoyed a different kind of morning — leaving the shelter for a few hours to explore the Lagos marina with our volunteers.

At just two years old, Lassie came from a home where she was cared for and her basic needs were met by an elderly couple who loved her deeply. However, as their health declined, they were no longer able to provide the walks, social experiences and stimulation a young dog needs to develop confidence. As a result, Lassie grew up with very little exposure to the outside world.

Since arriving at the shelter in April 2025, our volunteers have shown remarkable dedication in helping her gently discover new experiences. Regular outings beyond the shelter — including walks around the marina — allow her to become familiar with traffic, new sounds and everyday life at her own pace.

Although she is still cautious around cars and busy environments, her curiosity is growing. Each walk represents another small but meaningful step forward, proving how patience and consistency can help a shy dog gain confidence.

Lassie is gentle and calm with both people and other dogs, but she will need a patient and understanding family willing to continue the journey our volunteers have begun. With time, affection and reassurance, we know she will continue to blossom.

Stories like Linda’s and Lassie’s show that rescue is not only about saving lives — it is about giving dogs the chance to feel safe, confident and loved again.
