A 44-year-old woman was stabbed to death in an AL (short-term rental) apartment in Largo de Cerrado, Sintra last night.
Her attacker, believed to have been her estranged partner, is understood to have thrown himself off Lisbon’s April 25 bridge. His car has already been located, but no body has yet been found.
Jornal de Notícias explains that the woman had left the couple’s home some days ago, following arguments, and that it appears that her partner was able to track her down.
Once he knew where his girlfriend was staying, he waited for her to arrive at the apartment, and then, after 8pm last night, confronted her.
According to neighbours, the woman’s screams were clearly heard, but no-one felt it safe to intervene. Calls were made to the authorities, which discovered the woman lying already dead when they arrived around 9pm.
JN adds that by this time “the attacker was no longer at the residence. Evidence collected led (police) to believe that he got into his car and drove to the April 25 bridge, stopped the car on the bridge and threw himself into the water”.
Bridge security personnel located the car in the early hours of this morning, writes Observador which suggests the suspect may have staged the suicide, and instead be ‘on the run’.
