SheUltra, the world’s largest women-only trail event, will make its Portugal debut on November 1 in the Algarve.
Founded in Wales in 2024 by Huw Williams, who lives with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer, SheUltra was created to offer a “safe, supportive space where women feel seen, included, and empowered,” organisers say.

The event has since expanded to the UK and Italy, gathering thousands of participants and raising over €92,000 for women’s cancer support organisations.
Its first Portuguese edition will take place in the Algarve, with the 48 km route stretching from Praia da Falésia in Albufeira to the AP Victoria Sports & Beach Hotel. The event is not meant to be competitive, inviting all women to walk or run at their own pace — with no pressure and no time limit. In Portugal, part of the proceeds will support the oncology team in Faro. So far, €3,000 has already been donated via the SheUltra Legacy Fund through JustGiving links, and two breast exam mannequins will be provided to help nurses train and demonstrate how to detect early signs of cancer.
What makes SheUltra unique is its inclusive approach and strong focus on the female experience,” the team behind the event says. “There’s no finish time: each woman moves at her own rhythm. Medals are handed out at the start line to honour those we’ve lost and those still fighting. The event is entirely run by women — from medics to aid stations — creating a safe, welcoming environment.”
A local organising team will support the Algarve edition, encouraging broader community involvement and using SheUltra as a platform for connection and awareness.

“SheUltra isn’t about competition – it’s about connection, health, and courage. We want every woman to finish thinking: If I can do this, I can do anything.”
