Art, gastronomy and history will come together during a culinary demonstration by artist Jorge Rocha at Villa Romana de Milreu, Estoi, on June 15 at 6pm.
The event, which falls under the online gastronomic project Palato.org, sees Jorge Rocha preparing a meal that reflects the historical period in which the monument is set.
Developed by cultural association Xerem with the support of the Algarve Regional Directorate for Culture, the event aims to explain the eating habits of our ancestors and how they have evolved throughout the centuries.
To help Jorge Rocha in his endeavour, archaeologists João Pedro Bernardes and Rui Parreira will also take part in the culinary session, explaining the history behind the Villa Romana de Milreu, the surrounding landscapes and how they served as motto for the menu presented on the day.
A special worktop will be set up to allow for better interaction with visitors, who will be able to taste the dishes prepared on the day.Xerem held a similar event at the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar in April. Villa Romana de Milreu is located west of the historical village of Estoi (Faro) and takes visitors back in time to the 11th century.Palato.org is a Portuguese project that combines art, gastronomy and historical heritage.960 100 020 (Jorge Rocha)
