August is in full swing, bringing plenty of opportunities for jazz fans in the Algarve. Following the success of Beliche Jazz ’25 in Sagres, the Algarve Jazz Orchestra has announced upcoming concerts in Lagos, Portimão, Monchique, Carvoeiro, Loulé and Tavira.
The highlight is the ‘Swing & Soul’ tour with American singer Chuck Wansley presenting a repertoire that includes songs such as ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, ‘Sway’ and ‘Overjoyed’.
The New York singer has an extensive repertoire, which has taken him to the biggest stages in North America, including the West Coast (Los Angeles and Las Vegas), but also around the world. Carvoeiro, Tavira, Monchique and Loulé are the four locations that will host this concert, all with free admission (see list below for dates).
But there is more jazz in August in the Algarve! Individual projects by musicians from the Algarve Jazz Orchestra also feature in the programme: Ricardo Pires (alto saxophone), Alexandre Castaldo (tenor saxophone), Ricardo Jesus (alto saxophone), and singers Cherry and Sara Badalo are the leaders and mentors of their groups, presenting their personal visions of jazz and its fusions in high-quality projects.
The Algarve Jazz Orchestra, now in its 20th year, is one of the most important jazz orchestras in Portugal, not only for its programmes and the artists it invites, but also for the countless concerts, masterclasses, workshops, exhibitions, and other activities it promotes, always in collaboration with the local councils, as well as the Directorate-General for the Arts and some private entities.
