Algarve welcomes in 2013 with a bang!

Monte Gordo in Vila Real de Santo António will welcome in 2013 on the beach with music and fireworks, with a festive programme running from December 29 to 31.

On December 29, a series of shows begins at 10pm, with music concerts by the bands Grab it Band and The Sun. At 1am, the party goes on with DJ sets by Bruno Lourenço and Flip d’Palm.

On December 30, the music starts at 10pm with Allmariados, with the band Uns & Outros taking over at 11.30pm. The after-party starts again at 1am, with a performance by the musical project Smash.

On New Year’s Eve, Duo Reflexo will start the party at 10pm, and at midnight a firework display will light the sky in the bay of Monte Gordo. In the first few hours of 2013, the celebrated local band Íris will take to the stage, bringing generations together for a concert with many of the band’s famous hits sung with the Algarve accent

From 2am onwards, the dance floor will open to the sound of DJ Rosabrava, and continue into the night with DJ Glowjack.

In VRSA, the Praça Marquês de Pombal will also be lively on December 31, with the musical group Cê Barros playing from 10.30pm.

Tavira

Tavira Câmara intends to start 2013 with a bang. On New Year’s Eve, the party will start at Praça da República, at 10pm, with performances by DJ Pete Sleeve and One Vision (Queen tribute act). At midnight, there will be a firework display to welcome in the New Year.

On January 1, Igreja do Carmo will be the setting for a Bel-Canto classical concert, with four voices accompanied by Piano, at 5pm. Waltzes, Canzone napoletana, and other forms of classical singing will be performed by Filipa Lopes (soprano), Ana Serôdio (mezzo-soprano), João Queirós (tenor) and João Miranda (bass), accompanied by Kodo Yamagishi on piano, all from the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon. Entrance is free but places are limited so early arrival is advised.

Quarteira

On December 31, Quarteira’s Praça do Mar will host a show by musical group Essência, which will liven the night with the rhythms of Forró, Kizomba, Semba, Kuduro and Funaná.

The evening’s entertainment will commence at 11pm and at midnight the sky will be lit by a display of fireworks. Fifteen minutes after midnight, Essência will return to the stage to play the night away. Entrance is free.

Portimão

Portimão prepares to welcome in 2013 with fun for all age groups.

From December 21 to January 1, Portimão’s Fair and Exhibition Park will host the Cardinali Circus Theatre, presenting a children’s show with cartoon characters accompanying the usual clowns and jugglers. Entrance is free for children under two, €9 for children from three to 12, and €11 for adults. There will be daily matinees at 4.30pm, and sessions at 9.30pm on weekends. On December 29, Portimão Arena will host the Freestyle Motocross Show Marcos César, with ticket prices ranging from €10 to €20; these can be bought at the Portimão Arena ticket office, open from 9am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 6pm, and open from 11am to 9.30pm on December 29.

On December 31, there will be the traditional fireworks extravaganza at midnight, by the riverside and in Praia da Rocha, where the party will start at 11pm at the Miradouro Dance Spot with DJ Deelight.

Start 2013 laughing to Portuguese stand-up comedians at the Solrir Festival at Portimão Arena from January 2 to 5 – performances start at 9.30pm each day. Tickets are already on sale at the municipal theatre TEMPO and at Portimão’s Fair and Exhibition Park offices, with prices ranging from €7.5 (single daily ticket) to €22.5 (for a family pack with a bundle of four single daily tickets).

Albufeira

Albufeira will be welcoming 2013 with a mix of traditional and contemporary culture which will liven up several areas of the town.

From December 29 to January 1, the popular Paderne Medieval Fair will be returning after a one-year break, allowing visitors to witness parades, jousting tournaments, medieval markets, musical and theatrical acts, along with other moments emulating history.

On December 31, the stage in Praia dos Pescadores will see its traditional New Year’s Eve Concert, this time by the neo soul band Expensive Soul, who will set the tone for the night. A fireworks display will take place at midnight over the beach. At the same time (midnight on New Year’s Eve) the sky in Oura will be the backdrop for a fireworks display, while throughout the night, several street performers will recreate the Hollywood environment, by impersonating several show business stars on the Avenida Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro .
