Concern grows over British woman missing in Lagos

FRIENDS AND employers of a 22 year old British woman who lives in Lagos and has not been seen since the weekend are getting increasingly concerned about her whereabouts.

Lindsey Braines was last seen on Saturday buying a magazine from a shop on Lagos Marina at about 11.30am and has not been seen since.

She is described as being about 5ft 5” (1.67 metres) tall with brown shoulder length hair, usually worn in plaits, and being a UK size 14 (European size 42/44).

According to Captain Peter Cain, Lindsey had three jobs in the marina area, at a bed and breakfast, a restaurant and cleaning boats on the marina.

Employers at the West Restaurant on the marina told The Resident: “Lindsey had completed two training shifts at the restaurant and was due to start on Saturday but she never came to work.”

Employers at a bed and breakfast in Lagos where Lindsey was reportedly working have been into her room after they became concerned about her welfare and have found all her possessions are still there, including money and personal affects.

They have been trying to contact Lindsey on her mobile but the number is unavailable.

Peter Cain told The Resident: “This is completely out of character for Lindsey. She is a very quiet and shy girl and we are all very concerned.”

Sarah Hansen of Lazy Jacks bar on Lagos Marina said: “Lindsey came to the Algarve with a friend called Kelly and Kelly’s mum. They had been staying in a boat on the marina together but Lindsey came in last week and told me that they had gone and left her with nothing and asked to use a phone to call home.”

The Resident has discovered that at an internet café used by Lindsey in the marina, several calls had been made to different numbers in the north-east of England where it is believed Lindsey originates from, although it cannot be confirmed that these were made by Lindsey.

A spokesman at the PSP told The Resident: “There has been no official report filed about a missing girl in Lagos.”

The British Embassy in Lisbon has not been informed of her disappearance but a spokesman told The Resident: “If anyone has any information about this then they should contact the consulate in Portimao immediately.”

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Lindsey Braines, then please contact the British Consulate on 282 490 750.
