Demand for international education surges in Portugal, says Inspired Education

Over 5,700 students now enrolled as group pours millions into new campuses and top international teaching talent

The Inspired Education Group is reporting increasing enrolment numbers in Portugal, with 5,710 students attending its six schools this academic year – a sign of growing demand for international education across the country, it says.

The group operates six institutions in Portugal: three in Lisbon (PaRK International School Alfragide, PaRK International School Praça de Espanha, and PaRK International School Restelo); one in Palmela (St. Peter’s International School in Palmela), one in Cascais (King’s College School Cascais) and another in Vilamoura (Vilamoura International School). Inspire Education has invested around €75 million in Portugal in 2025 and more than €300 million since entering the Portuguese market in 2018, with an additional €39 million currently being deployed in new projects.

King’s College School Cascais

Among these, the newly opened King’s College School Cascais stands out as the largest investment ever made in a Portuguese school. The state-of-the-art campus features international-standard sports fields, a 25-metre indoor pool, a 300-seat auditorium, advanced science labs, and a boarding program starting from age 13.

The Inspired network in Portugal now employs 479 teachers – 63% of them Portuguese – and 321 additional staff members. The teaching body includes educators from countries such as the UK, the Netherlands, the US, Ireland, South Africa, and Brazil, many with extensive experience. Although the student body is predominantly Portuguese, the schools welcome students from 47 different nationalities.

“These numbers show the growing demand for our international education model, which combines academic excellence, sports, and creative and performative arts,” said John Leitão, CEO of Inspired Education in Portugal. “Today, more and more Portuguese families recognise the value of this model, which guarantees a solid preparing for top national and international universities as well as the development of bilingual skills, critical thinking and leadership. We are educating people who are capable of competing and standing out in an international context.”

Across Inspired’s schools, 90% of students are admitted to their first-choice universities, with one in three going on to institutions in the Russell Group or the Ivy League. Many others continue into top Portuguese universities in fields such as engineering, economics, and medicine.
