This December, the heart of Ferragudo will shine brighter than ever before. On Saturday, December 20, from 3pm to 7pm, the village square, Praça Rainha Dona Leonor, will transform into a festive wonderland for the very first Christmas Charity Event Ferragudo.
Organised by Friends in Business Algarve, in collaboration with the Primary School of Ferragudo, the Junta de Freguesia (parish council), the local church, and local community supporters, the event will bring together residents, entrepreneurs, and families for an afternoon filled with joy, music, Christmas carols, and community spirit.
A celebration of giving back
The event’s mission is simple yet powerful: to create a magical Christmas experience for Ferragudo’s children. Every donation, every helping hand, and every smile will help make the season brighter for local families.
Organiser Sandra Westein, founder of Friends in Business Algarve, explains: “We wanted to bring the community together for something truly meaningful – to share warmth, laughter, and generosity with the children who make Ferragudo such a special place. This is our way of giving back.”
Co-organiser Luís Alberto, President of the Junta de Freguesia de Ferragudo, adds: “Ferragudo has a big heart. This event is a chance for everyone – residents, businesses, and friends – to come together and do something beautiful for our children. I believe it will be the start of a wonderful tradition that will grow year after year.”
Local businesses, restaurants, and residents are invited to participate, whether through donations, sponsorships, or volunteering. Contributions can take many forms:
- Sponsoring gifts or decorations
- Offering food, snacks, or drinks during the event
- Providing vouchers, materials, or services
- Helping as a volunteer during the afternoon
Every contribution, big or small, will help create smiles and unforgettable memories for Ferragudo’s children.
A true community effort
The event has already sparked enthusiasm among local entrepreneurs and organisations. Several have pledged support; like offering Christmas carols performed by a local choir and donating money, presents and treats for the children.
“We’ve received so many warm responses,” says Sandra. “People tell us: ‘If it’s for the children, I want to help.’ And that’s exactly the spirit of Ferragudo.”
The organisers are also looking for volunteers, including two cheerful elves, to help hand out presents and spread Christmas cheer.
An invitation to join
Local businesses and residents who wish to support or take part in the event are encouraged to get in touch. “This is not just about one afternoon,” adds Sandra. “It’s about bringing people together, celebrating community, and showing what we can achieve when we give with heart.
“The Christmas Charity Event Ferragudo will be the first of its kind and, with the community’s help, the beginning of a beautiful annual tradition.”
