Gas bottle prices suffer “large increase” from Wednesday

Increase could add another €15 to (large) 45kg bottles

April will see the prices we all pay for bottled gas increasing ‘dramatically’.

Mafalda Trigo, vice-president of ANAREC – the national association of fuel salespeople – has told CNN Portugal that bottles will see a “large increase”, potentially up to an extra €15 on the larger (45 kg) bottles.

The reason the increase has only come now – more than a month after the war in the Middle East sent oil prices rocketing – is that prices in this sector are set ‘monthly’, at the start of each month.

Thus, from Wednesday, we can expect regular 13 kg bottles to increase in price by around €3, and the higher amount on the larger bottles.

As for diesel and petrol, Mafalda Trigo explains that prices are roughly the same as they were last week – essentially because of the ongoing situation, and the fact that it is not clear that any kind of peace deal is imminent.

Regarding government support measures (the reduction of ISP fuel tax, and additional help with professional diesel for haulage/ passenger transport companies), ANAREC has appealed for an approach more in line with that of Spain, which has reduced the IVA on fossil fuels – and has included “several business sectors” , beyond transport companies, in the help given with professional diesel.
