Amigos de Música, the organisation renowned for bringing distinguished musicians to the Algarve, has once again invited the celebrated German pianist Alexander Schimpf to perform in the region.
On Tuesday, March 17, Alexander Schimpf will play sonatas by W.A. Mozart (Piano Sonata in F major, K. 533/494), by Russian composer Nikolai Medtner, and by Franz Liszt. On Thursday, March 19, he presents various works byFranz Schubert.
Alexander Schimpf has established himself as one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, earning international recognition after winning three of the most prestigious awards for young pianists: the German Music Competition (Bonn, 2008), the International Beethoven Competition (Vienna, 2009), and the Cleveland International Piano Competition (USA, 2011), where he became the first German pianist to receive the First Prize.
Since then, he has appeared in many of Europe’s leading venues in Berlin, Gasteig, Munich, Frankfurt, Köln, and at many German festivals.
International engagements have taken him to Carnegie Hall in New York, the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, and on repeated tours throughout North and South America, as well as performances in France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, England, Russia, and Spain.
Concerts in the Algarve will take place in the auditorium of Os Agostos estate near Santa Bárbara de Nexe. Doors open at 6.15pm and the concert will begin at 7pm. Wine, fruit juices and canapés will be available for self-service from 6.15pm before the concert and in the interval.
Entry donation, including refreshments, is €30 per person for Amigos’ guests and non-members, payable in advance by bank transfer.
The Amigos de Música is an international group of around 120 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation and celebrates its 35th anniversary this year.
