Nature, culture and community are coming together for the 2nd Santa Bárbara de Nexe Walking Fest (WFSBN) taking place between January 29 and February 1, 2026.
Over four days and aimed at audiences of all ages, the festival offers a diverse programme combining walking, heritage, art, science, wellbeing and sensory experiences.
Activities invite participants to discover the area, its traditions and landscapes, with highlights including themed walks, workshops, exhibitions, musical performances and educational initiatives for schools, families and senior citizens.
Among the novelties in 2026 is the participation of Fernanda Botelho, who leads walks and workshops dedicated to identifying edible and medicinal plants, promoting practical knowledge of local flora and the connection between nature, health and traditional knowledge.
The festival also features the presence of stonemason Arnaldo Ramos, who shares his expertise in stonework, as well as a performance by accordionist Inês Faria, who will bring traditional and folk music to life.
Another highlight of the programme are the immersive sound walks, guided by João Tatá Regala, who invites participants to “listen to the landscape, appreciating the natural sounds and identity of the territory”.
The 2nd Santa Bárbara de Nexe Walking Fest thus establishes itself as a landmark event, promoting and strengthening the community’s connection to its natural and cultural heritage.
Registration is now open and closes on January 26.
The WFSBN is promoted by the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe and organised by the Nexense Cultural, Recreational and Sports Association, the Algarviana Team and the informal group Bifanas Team.
The event is part of the Algarve Walking Season network, coordinated by the QRER Cooperative, with the support of the Algarve Tourism Region/Visitalgarve, with the aim of promoting the Algarve as a region for walking all year round.
