Workers at SPdH/Menzies (formerly Groundforce) will be on strike on the last weekend-plus of July and the last four weekends of August, according to a notice issued by the Metal and Allied Industries Union (SIMA) today.
As Lusa explains: “the strike is motivated by demands such as base salaries set at or above the national minimum wage, better wages, payment for night work and continued access to the car park under the same terms and conditions that have always applied to them.
“In a statement, SIMA also calls for compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding and states that (the strike) covers all Portuguese airports”.
The first strike period comes from 00.00 hours on July 25 to 00.00 hours on July 28 (ie from midnight on Friday to midnight on the following Sunday).
The four periods in August replicate this structure , with the second strike period runs from midnight on August 8 to midnight on August 11.
Lusa adds that during August, the union also plans strikes, along the same lines, for all days between August 15 and 18, August 22 and 25, and August 29 and September 1.
SIMA explains that for workers whose shift begins before or ends after the announced periods and if “most of their working period coincides with the period covered” by the advance notice, the strike “will take effect from the time they should have started work, or will continue until the time they should have finished work”.
The union adds that, despite the strike, workers will ensure the services necessary for the safety and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
“Given the current circumstances, namely the number of workers covered by the advance notice and its wide dissemination, it is only necessary to ensure minimum services listed above,” SIMA adds.
