The Algarve’s biggest landslide win in last night’s local elections happened in Monchique, where current Socialist mayor (PS) Paulo Alves was re-elected with a significant majority of votes – 65.07% (1,967 votes). No other party came close.
The overwhelming victory means that PS will have four municipal seats, against just one for the PSD-CDS coalition, which finished a distant second with just 19.09% of the vote (577).
