New golf club in Silves

The Silves Internacional Clube de Golfe (SICG) is a new golf club in the Algarve born from a desire of European golfers to be represented in a more official manner.

It was established by a Dutchman, three Irishmen, and two Englishmen, namely Leo Lambrichs, Julian Lyons, Desmond O’Neil, Tom Brady, John Barham and Donald Cox, who were previously long serving members of the same golf society.

“Pestana Golf Resorts manager Rui Gago was supportive of the idea of a truly international golf club and has helped us tremendously,” said Roelie Lambrichs, a 12 handicap golfer and temporary secretary of SICG.

The original founder members, having established the club financially, legally and with the Portuguese Golf Federation, have now decided to take a back seat and enjoy the fruits of their labours.

SICG has been established within three months from initial informal discussions between the founder members.

Playing three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the club has a good balance of  Individual Stableford and Medal rounds ably managed by Geoff Robinson, with social and team competitions run by Brian Randall and Mic Newman respectively.

SICG caters for all categories of golfer, with Kathryn Newman organising popular sociable get-togethers.
