Authorities launch investigation into Sunday night fire at popular Meia Praia restaurant

An investigation has been launched into the causes of a fire which broke out at the Bar Berlim beach restaurant in Meia Praia, Lagos on Sunday night (November 16).

The blaze started a few hours after the restaurant had close and no one was inside at the time, Lagos port captain, Hugo da Guia, told Lusa news agency.

“We contacted PJ (criminal police), the authority responsible for investigations. They will carry out on-site inquiries today (Monday) to determine the causes of the fire at the Meia Praia restaurant,” he added.

According to the Algarve Regional Command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), authorities were alerted at 9.59pm. As no one was inside the restaurant at the time, the fire caused only material damage.

The site was sealed off on Sunday night by PJ police as the investigation into the cause of the blaze takes place.

Fortunately, the fire caused no injuries, only material damage.

A total of 29 personnel from various authorities took part in the emergency response.
