On Sunday, January 11, Cadela Carlota association enjoyed a very successful fundraising afternoon at Habana Bar, Luz, and we would like to extend a huge thank you to the entire Habana team for hosting us and creating such a welcoming space for our supporters and dogs.
Thanks to their generosity — and to everyone who came along to support us — we raised an impressive €733, a vital contribution that will go directly towards the ongoing care, food and medical expenses of the dogs in our care.
The afternoon was filled with friendly faces, wagging tails and plenty of conversation about adoption, fostering and the day-to-day realities of running an animal shelter. Our dogs behaved beautifully throughout the event, helping to show just how calm, affectionate and rewarding rescue dogs can be.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited us on the day, to our tireless volunteers who give their time week in, week out, and a very special thank you to our volunteer Brigitte, whose organisation and dedication ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish.
Two of the dogs we were proud to introduce to the public were Frosty and Micky, both with very different life stories but the same hope of finding a safe and loving home.
Frosty, a medium-sized male, spent his entire early life confined to a single house in Portimão. His elderly owner could no longer afford to care for him or the other dogs living there, and they were neglected and never taken for walks.
Frosty arrived at the shelter in October 2023, shy and fearful of the outside world. Thanks to patient work by our volunteers, he has made steady progress — learning to wear a collar, go for walks beyond the shelter gates, and gradually explore his surroundings. Frosty would thrive with a calm, understanding family willing to give him the time he needs to build confidence.
Micky was found wandering the streets of Lagos in the Albardeira area, constantly at risk from traffic. Kind local residents provided food, water and shelter before contacting Cadela Carlota.
Now safe at the shelter, Micky is a lively and energetic young dog who enjoys playing and running, though he can be anxious at times due to his difficult start in life. With a patient and supportive home, his affectionate personality will continue to blossom.
