POTOW artist duo presents ‘Apocalyptic Views’ and asks: “What if the way forward… is back?”
This September, the provocative father-son artist duo POTOW makes their Lisbon debut with ‘Apocalyptic Views’ – a haunting new exhibition that confronts the brutal beauty of a world unraveling, and asks a question: “What did we abandon, and is it too late to return?”
Living off-grid in rural Portugal, POTOW do not simply reflect on collapse from a distance – they inhabit it. Their way of life, rooted in self-sufficiency and reconnection with the land, inspires every brushstroke. ‘Apocalyptic Views’ emerges not from theory, but from lived experience.
Through a striking series of original paintings, the exhibition explores themes of collapse, neglect, and the quiet disappearance of ancestral ways. Portugal’s fading rural landscapes become emotional and symbolic ground zero – visual elegies for lost craftsmanship, forgotten rhythms, and community structures that once held the world together.
Yet this is not a portrait of despair. ‘Apocalyptic Views’ is a signal flare of memory – an invitation to look backward with courage, to “rediscover the slow, sustainable wisdom of the ‘old ways’ before it vanishes for good”.
“We are not painting the end of the world – we are painting what is left,” says POTOW.
