Lisbon restaurant hosts charity dinner to support families in Lebanon

Fundraising event at Touta will donate part of each booking to communities affected by war

A restaurant in Lisbon is turning a night of dining into a fundraising effort, with a special event on Wednesday night (April 1) aimed at supporting families affected by the ongoing war in Lebanon.

The event will take place at Touta, which is hosting the charity dinner in partnership with Caram Portugal and Lebanese organisation Beit el Baraka. Part of the proceeds from each reservation will go directly to helping vulnerable communities.

Cynthia Bitar and Rita Abou Ghazale

Touta chef Cynthia Bitar and restaurant co-owner Rita Abou Ghazale were driven to host the event by the “need to support their home country and fellow citizens”.

“Gastronomy does not exist in isolation; it is part of the world and its realities,” explains chef Cynthia Bitar. “This dinner is our way of responding, in a concrete way, to a real need currently affecting our country. Cooking is, for me, an act of care, and this is a cause that touches me very personally. Here at Touta, we want that care to extend beyond the table and reach those who need it most”.

Co-owner Rita Ghazale adds: ““We could not remain indifferent to what is happening in our homeland. Even from afar, we want to contribute and help our community. This dinner is our way of coming together in solidarity, with the support of institutions committed to assisting our people in need”.

The dinner will be held in two sittings, at 7pm and 9pm, with limited places available. Price per person is €65, with €15 donated to Caram Portugal and a total of €20 per guest going towards the cause after additional contributions from the restaurant.

Reservations can be made on the restaurant’s website.
