Sea swim in Ferragudo marks first day of 2026

Hundreds of participants expected at Praia Grande

The traditional New Year’s Day sea swim will take place in Ferragudo on January 1, 2026, at Praia Grande, at 11am, with around 1,000 people expected to attend, including swimmers and spectators.

As in previous years, organisers estimate that about 500 participants will enter the sea after a brief warm-up, symbolically marking the start of the new year.

At the end of the swim, all participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, supported by Lagoa Municipal Council, as well as the traditional hot chocolate, provided through a partnership with Club Nau.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the Ferragudo Parish Council thanked the entities involved in ensuring the event’s safety, including the Lagoa GNR, the Portimão Port Authority, the Ferragudo Sea Rescue Institute and the Lagoa Volunteer Fire Brigade.

To sign up, email geral@f-ferragudo.pt with your name and t-shirt size.
