A new campaign launched by the Portuguese Tourism Board guarantees surfers travelling to Portugal waves suitable for surfing.
If surfing tourists find no waves suitable to practice and enjoy their sport in any of the selected spots for three consecutive days they will be offered a free return trip to Portugal.
“No waves? Come back for free” is the name being applied to this surfing package and is available to tourists staying for a minimum of four days. The package includes a plane ticket and hotel accommodation and is available until the end of December.
Addressing all foreign surfers planning a trip to Portugal, the tourism board says: “Our waves are legendary and so is our hospitality. We want to be sure you will be happy. So, if (by any mysterious event) you don’t get waves to surf, we will offer you a comeback trip!”
“Surfing in Portugal is a unique experience. No other coast can offer you such a high number of surf spots within such a short distance. That’s why we usually say that waves in Portugal are always guaranteed. Trust us, you will find waves in every corner.”
The offer applies to 28 surf spots including the beaches of Vila do Bispo, Sagres, Lagos, Tavira, Espinho, Matosinhos, Peniche, Ericeira, Nazaré, Sintra and Carcavelos.
Conditions state that waves below half-a-metre in size are considered “no waves”, and evidence must be provided along with any invoices incurred for the trip.
