The power of community

How fundraising helps save lives

A huge thank you to The Collab Bar in Lagos, who recently raised €80 for Cadela Carlota by collecting donations during their third birthday celebration. This generous act will cover essential food and basic veterinary care for one of our rescues for an entire month.

They also host a weekly quiz night on Thursdays – there’s no entry fee, but participants are invited to make a small donation to the shelter if they can. If you’re in Lagos, come along, have some fun, and support a good cause!

Local businesses across the region play an essential role in helping animals in need. Their ongoing support – along with donations from individuals – gives us the resources to respond quickly when emergencies arise. A recent rescue shows exactly why that support is so vital.

For over a year, a street cat near Restaurante Campimar at Porto de Mós beach evaded all our attempts to catch her. With help from the Lagos municipal kennel, she was finally rescued and brought into our care. Back in November, we managed to get her to a vet for initial treatment, but sadly, her condition has since worsened.

She was recently seen again and has now been diagnosed with a tumour in her eye. She urgently needs surgery. The estimated cost starts at €250, but this could increase if the vet decides her eye must be removed or further procedures are required.

This is where community fundraising makes all the difference. Without financial support from kind-hearted donors and local businesses, we simply wouldn’t be able to help in cases like this. These funds go directly to cover veterinary bills, treatment, and clinic stays – giving animals a second chance at life.

If you’d like to help this cat and others like her, please consider donating:
