Wine talk – Fall is here – change up your whites!

The last six months in the Algarve have begged for crisp, light wines to go with lighter fare. But grilled seafood and shellfish just aren’t satisfying at the dinner table like they were when the sun was high.

The changing seasons open the door for change in so many ways, among them the dishes we enjoy – and our wines. So, let this be your sign to embrace change and switch out the bright summery whites at your table for wines with more body and richness on the palate.

Here is an elegant white to try for your richer dishes in cooler weather – think creamy risotto, roasted salmon or an excellent option for your Thanksgiving table.

Quinta da Sequeira Douro Reserva Branco 2023, from the Douro Superior, is a blend of classic white varietals: Códega do Larinho, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, and Rabigato from vinhas velhas located at high altitude.

In the glass, ripe fruit aromas like tangerine, pear, melon, mango and papaya are balanced by notes of vanilla, spice and smoke from six months of ageing in new French oak barrels – present but not overpowering. On the palate, it is complex and balanced, with vibrant acidity and a long finish. This wine evolves as you enjoy it in your glass.

Quinta da Sequeira Douro Reserva Branco 2023 is available at Apolónia Supermarkets, priced €19.95.
