Sines municipality has concluded the installation of defibrillators in its sporting premises (municipal stadium, multi-use pavilion and Carlos Manafaia swimming pool). The investment makes ‘sense’ when one considers that people exerting themselves could indeed end up suffering heart issues – but in other boroughs, particularly in the Algarve, residents have been bemused by the siting of defibrillators in seemingly random locations. Albufeira, for example, has invested in more around a dozen defibrillators, and prides itself on this achievement which it says sees the borough’s offer as being “three times greater than the national average”.
