Flamenco rhythms promise to liven up the Algarve’s cultural agenda this autumn.
Somorrostro, a show combining contemporary dance with flamenco, is being performed at the TEMPO Portimão Municipal Theatre on October 27 at 9.30pm.
The show by Catalan group Transit Dansa will feature 11 dancers, led by choreographer Maria Rovira, who will recreate life in the Barcelona shantytown Somorrostro, which was demolished in the 60s.
Although home to an important gypsy community as well as immigrants from all over Spain, residents of the shantytown lived in precarious conditions. However, they survived the hardships through music and dance. Tickets cost from €12.50.
Meanwhile, another flamenco project, by the Al Compás group, is taking place at the Cine Teatro Louletano in Loulé on November 10 at 9.30pm. Silvia de Paz and Yasaray Rodriguez will dance to music by Jesus Flores (vocals) and Miguel Pérez (guitar). Tickets cost €10.
