The Algarve Senior Bikers (ASB) held its Central Algarve Group Ride on June 27.
The route was planned by David Shirley, who also organised the following lunch, assisted on the day by Tom van der Sar and Yves Breyer.
On one of the hottest days this year, the Algarve Senior Bikers met at the Repsol service station at the N2 roundabout in São Brás de Alportel. The ride was on some small quiet back roads through the hills to Barranco Velho and then north on the twisty N2 towards Amexial before going west through Califórnia and the valley to Malhão for coffee.
According to Albert Hammond’s hit song, “It Never Rains in Southern California”, but it does get very, very hot with temperatures around 40ºC during the ride, which caused some mobile phones and navigation devices to shut down because of overheating.
After the refreshment break in the shade of the trees outside the café, it was on down through the beautiful valleys to Santa Margarida to arrive for lunch in Alte.
