APAA’s Anita Wight is now Animal Rescue Algarve’s newly-appointed ambassador representing their ‘Legacy Pet Plan’
Ambassador: a representative, a very important person! Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, all ambassadors for animal welfare.
Requirement: Public personas. Instantly recognisable. Believing in the cause-for-paws.
Anita Wight (Association for Protection of Animals Algarve, aka APAA’s ‘Pop-Up Shop’ fame) is now Animal Rescue Algarve’s newly-appointed ambassador representing their ‘Legacy Pet Plan’.
“We needed a face, a person who would take ‘Legacy’ into the public domain,” Sid Richardson, CIC of Animal Rescue Algarve (ARA), along with general manager João Ferreira, wholeheartedly agreed. “Anita has been a real supporter of ARA’s ‘Legacy’ plan for some time.”
Jenny Clarke, APAA’s president, recalls. “It was our dream come true. Sid’s brainchild: Legacy Pet Plan!”
Finally, it’s important to accept the end of one’s life, its inevitability. A critical stage in the human beings’ development. Unfortunately, for some, it is not an easy subject to discuss openly. “Talking is one thing, following through is another.”
Both ARA and APAA decided a course of action. “All of us dealing with animal welfare on a daily basis see the heartbreaking stories of abandoned animals. It’s not because they are unwanted. Far from it.” Sid (just tipping the scales at 80-something) has several dogs of his own: “Realistically, I cannot assume that if I die or become ill, some magic person will turn up and look after my animals.”
Anita nods. She has several dogs of her own. “I am determined that our furry friends do not get dumped. If they are put somewhere, they may become neglected, forgotten.”
ARA’s Legacy Pet Plan is simple. “As soon as we are alerted by the appointed guardian, we collect, re-chip them and ensure their wellbeing before finding suitable loving new homes.”
Perhaps people are worried they are signing their pet(s) away before time. “Not at all. There is no reason we shouldn’t look at ‘Legacy’ as a life-enhancer for everyone. Your peace of mind, your pet(s)’ future assured.”
A reasonable donation for the animal(s)’ up-keep is desirable, not mandatory.
ARA’s beautiful shelter ‘Cabanita’, outside of Loulé, is a wonderland and is open for visitors. See for yourself. A video will shortly be available, reassuring everyone that ARA’s legacy ensures your pet(s)’ bright and healthy future. Check it out. Talk it through. It will make sense.
