But charity shops in Alvor and Silves open!
But not all is lost! The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve (APAA) has other fish to fry.
“This has been a particularly good year so far, with all our ‘Pop-Up’ shops and events attracting record attendances. The car boot sales have been wonderful, when we could pop open the boot.” APAA president Jenny Clarke and her various helpers in Ferragudo have had to battle storms, rain, roadworks and blazing hot sun. Jackie’s ever-popular lunches will continue with mouth-watering menus to suit the summer sizzle.
Team APAA’s charity shops in Alvor and Silves will be open to meet and greet tourists and residents alike. Looking for a quick wardrobe change? Or perhaps thinking of smartening up the balcony, kitchen or bedroom? Gifts are always difficult, but there’s plenty to choose from. Handmade jewellery, a basket of homemade jams, chutneys, pickles and cookies. There’s an original thought!
In the meantime, some re-homing of a couple of the cats need mentioning. Corinne’s Carvoeiro Cat Charity took in a couple of furry felines, ‘Possy’ and ‘Gino’. Her volunteers put on a wonderful ‘gig’ for raising money, and a way to thank their supporters. A good time was had by all.
Viktoriya’s family had ‘Snow’ treated and broken leg on the mend thanks to APAA’s help. Steve arrived at the last ‘Pop-Up’ of the season at O Tasco (Senhora do Verde) with svelte mink-coloured Weimaraner ‘Lexie’ recently happily re-homed.
New members and venues
APAA is always on the lookout for new places, somewhere to display our wonderful array of goodies, old, and new! Preferably a good local watering hole with food and parking.
Some of the members will be taking a bit of a break to catch breath. Others are ploughing on and hopefully resting up later in the year. “We do sometimes have problems manning our two charity shops. So, if anyone out there wants to lend a hand, please make contact with us. You will be really welcomed. Not only to help us help others, but a good social life and meeting people.”
Anita will be packing up her ‘Pop-Up’ uniform and transforming herself into ‘Legacy Ambassador’ flying around to give you information on the ‘Legacy Pet Plan’.
“We are halting car boot sales until autumn.” Jenny’s face masks the ‘weather-permitting’ with a grin. “Anyway, we have to re-stock and get up to speed for a new busy season ahead. So, please, any items in good condition for any part of the home, garden or balcony and indeed clothing for all age-groups!” Jenny adds: “If you can’t get to the shops, I will arrange a pick-up.” Great!
