Aperitivo’s Wizard of Odd is a visual delight

To get us all into the Christmas spirit, Algarve-based Aperitivo Performance Group will be staging a new version of the classic Wizard of Oz in December.

The Wizard of Odd production has been given some ‘odd’ new twists and is described as a show full of energy, colour, singing and dance.

As the theatre group says, “this being the Algarve, the Tin Man’s can is used to hold sardines and his hat is an old olive oil container (but the British will be pleased to note the baked bean tins on his arms and legs). Inside, however, there is nothing – the delectable Dorothy can hear no heart beating, no matter how hard she listens.

“So, they’re off to see the Wizard, along with the Straw Man and the Cowardly Lion, to see if the Wizard can provide them with a heart, a brain, some nerve, and a home.”

The Tin Man is one of the fabulous costumes designed and made by Lesley Sweeney for Aperitivo Performance Group’s completely new version of the old Yellow Brick Road story.

Aperitivo is a multinational, multi-lingual theatre group and this production follows their principle of including a little of each actor’s native language, although the great majority of the script is in English.
