Barão’s story is a powerful reminder of why foster families are at the heart of everything we do. Almost one year old, this gentle, medium-to-small sized dog is now healthy, calm and thriving — but his journey began in very different circumstances.
Barão was found alone in the woods of Barão de São João, skinny, covered in ticks and fighting for his life. A photo taken at the time, which we will share alongside this article, shows just how vulnerable he was when help arrived. Thanks to timely intervention and dedicated care, that frightened puppy has become a confident and affectionate young dog, ready for his next chapter.
That transformation would not have been possible without the commitment of his foster family. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Adam, Shannon and everyone involved in Barão’s foster care. Foster parents open their homes, their routines and their hearts — often at short notice — giving dogs like Barão the stability they desperately need to heal, learn and trust again. Their work is patient, consistent and often unseen, but the results speak for themselves.
Barão is currently living in a foster home where he has already “done his homework”. He walks perfectly on a leash, behaves beautifully in public spaces such as outdoor cafés, responds to his name and knows basic obedience commands. He is already neutered, fully vaccinated and ready to join a family of his own.
Calm, very obedient and deeply affectionate, Barão thrives on human company. He loves cuddles and reassurance and is happiest when he can be close to his people. For this reason, we are looking for a home where someone is available for most of the day and where he can continue to feel safe and secure.
As Barão approaches his first birthday, we can’t think of a better gift than a forever home. After everything he has overcome, he deserves a family who will choose him not just for how well-behaved he is, but for the loyal companion he promises to be.
