Community support makes a difference at Cadela Carlota

The holiday season once again showed the strength and kindness of our local community, and everyone at Cadela Carlota (Lagos) would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the partners, volunteers and supporters who helped us close the year on a positive note.

We are especially grateful to our local partners who went the extra mile over Christmas and beyond. A big thank you goes to The Collab Bar in Lagos whose Christmas raffle raised an impressive €450 in support of our dogs. Initiatives like this make a real and lasting difference, helping us cover food, veterinary care and everyday shelter costs.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to our trainer Gail Skinner, who helped raise generous donations at the much-loved Christmas Pawty, hosted by Awesome Dogs Training. The event was not only a fundraiser but also a joyful celebration of the bond between people and their dogs. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who attended with their dogs and made a donation — your support and enthusiasm truly mean the world to us.

Support from local businesses and individuals allows us to continue our mission of rescuing, caring for and rehoming dogs in need across the Algarve. Every raffle ticket bought, every event attended and every euro donated helps give our dogs a second chance.

One of those dogs is Lyla (wonderfully photographed by Bob Balm), a beautiful four-year-old who has already been through more than any dog should. Lyla was abandoned by her owners and came to the shelter with another female dog, where they have now been living for three months. Despite her difficult start, Lyla is a gentle, sweet and affectionate dog with a lively personality and lots of energy.

Lyla would thrive in a home with outdoor space, where she can run, play and burn off her energy. She gets along well with people and other dogs and loves human company. If you would like to meet Lyla, you can visit the shelter and take her for a walk on Saturday or Sunday mornings between 9am and 12.30pm.
