Rain is back in the picture this week following a few days’ of fine weather – and this time the culprit is “a lady storm” by the name of Ingrid, which should be making herself most felt from Thursday.
Climatologist Mário Marques has told SIC that Ingrid will bring plummeting temperatures, rain, strong winds and raging seas.
Ingrid poses four”factors of risk”, he said – the ‘tempestuous seas, with waves of up to 10 metres, particularly on the west coast between Figueira da Foz and Sines; the strong wind, with gusts of up to 90 m/ h; heavy rain and ‘significant snowfall’ in certain regions located 700 metres above sea level.
The seven districts under a yellow warning, starting today, due to rough seas are Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon.
From tomorrow, the warning extends to the rest of the coastline – and on Thursday it is expected to be upgraded to orange (the second most serious level).
Tomorrow also the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco will be under yellow warning for snowfall. Snow is forecast for high regions – and could ‘accumulate’, according to weather institute IPMA, to a depth of 10cms.
